Legionella: MCS 3005 -D states that domestic hot water systems shall incorporate a means to prevent bacterial growth (including legionella bacteria). NOTE: where prevention is through periodic pasteurisation of the system then a bacterial risk assessment can help determine how frequent this pasteurisation should occur. MCS does not reference does not specifically reference HSE Approved code of practice (ACOP) L8 although it is listed in the further reading section. Referring to the HSE L8 document it is noted that the document is aimed at the work place environment and as stated it aimed dutyholders, including employers, those in control of premises and those with health and safety responsibilities for others. The L8 document states: Responsible persons shall identify and assess sources of risk. This includes checking whether conditions will encourage bacteria to multiply. For example, if the water temperature is between 20 to 45°C, if there is a means of creating and disseminating breathable droplets, such as the aerosol created, eg by cooling towers, showers and spa pools; and if there are at risk. Most heat pump will heat water 50°C and can be set to maintain a temperature above 45°C. | ||
