Government
Policy:
UK Government supports the adoption of heat pumps. Heat pumps help
reduce the UK's carbon foot print and will reduce the reliance on gas and oil.
But whilst the government provides the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant to
encourage adoption its policy is sometimes discourages many from
adopting the technology. An example of this is the loading of of ECO levey on
electricity rater than gas.
Electricity prices in the UK
are high compared to other countries.
The following anomalies need to be a addressed:
1
Electricity prices are linked to gas prices causing prices to
escalate. This link needs to be broken.
2
Energy Company Obligation (ECO 4) is scheme that provides free solar panels
, boiler upgrades and insulation measures to low income households. This increases
electricity prices by 13 %.
Good news is that ECO 4 levey will be removed from
electricity costs in April 2026 and there is currently some discusssion taking
place which would add carbon levies to gas rather than electricty.
